About

Time for Bed provides beds to children between the ages of 0-18 years from across Merseyside who do not have a bed of their own. These children are often sleeping on the hard flooring, on uncomfortable sofas, air mattresses, or sharing with other family members. We are working to change this and improve the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in Merseyside.

We link with Merseyside teaching professionals to refer pupils in need and deliver bed bundles into their home. Bundles consist of a bed base or cot bed, mattress and warm, comfortable bedding, to ensure a child is able to get a good night’s sleep, develop and reach their full potential.

There are many reasons why a child may not have a bed of their own. A family with low income who is struggling to buy items such as food and heating are unlikely to be able to afford to buy or replace high cost items such as a bed. Individuals who are fleeing domestic abuse with their children may be supported to find a safe place to live but this will likely be an unfurnished property meaning that lone parents and children must sleep on the floor. We know that just 2% of social housing is let as furnished, creating a cycle of poverty where individuals do not have the essential items needed to live – and no place for a child to sleep.

End Furniture Poverty’s Time for Bed appeal aims to:

• Provide cot or bed bundles containing a bed, mattress and warm bedding to each baby and child across the region who are currently living without their own bed, giving them a warm, comfortable place of their own to sleep each night.

• Improve the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of children living in poverty

• Support a child’s bedtime routine

• Help children develop to their full potential each day through education following a good night’s sleep

• Reduce feelings of isolation by offering independence to help boost a child’s self-esteem and confidence, and allow them to socialise with their peers

• Remove an additional worry from parents, helping to support the mental health and wellbeing of all family members
